Tiburon
Tiburon
Just a little bit of texture makes this heavenly-soft, subtly-variegated yarn sing. Named for a beloved California coastal town, Tiburon is a lightweight, quick-knitting neck accessory perfect for keeping warm on cool spring nights or for adding just a little pop of color and interest to a neutral outfit. Take advantage of Phoebe’s beautifully nuanced variegations for a subtler, dressier version like the one shown here, or go wilder with a speckled or multihued colorway in your favorite drapey DK.
SIZE
One size; approximately 51” / 130 cm circumference x 7” / 18 cm width.
YARN
Quince and Co. Phoebe (100% American Extra-Fine Merino, 301 yards / 275 meters per 100 grams), or approximately 300 yards of DK- or light-worsted weight yarn. Samples knit in “Venus” and “Saturn”. (Note on yarn substitution: you’re looking for something with some drape here; this is not a great pattern for a substantial wooly wool. The length of this piece is adjustable, but if you use a much smaller or much larger skein, it will affect the finished size!)
GAUGE
18 sts and 34 rows per 4” / 10 cm in charted Slipped Bands stitch pattern, after blocking. Gauge is not critical to this project, but may affect finished size.
NEEDLES
Straight or circular needle in size US 8 / 5.0 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge.
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle; waste yarn (optional); crochet chain for provisional cast on (optional).
SKILLS REQUIRED
Provisional cast on (optional); three-needle bind-off (optional); increasing; decreasing.
